Nation Name Quiz

Welcome to the nation name quiz. What is your country's origin? There are several theories on how a nation got its name. In a previous version of the story, British Guiana was known as Land of Many Waters or the Land of Lion Mountains. Christopher Columbus named the country Honduras, which means depths in Spanish. The word "honduras" came from the deep seas off the north coast of India.

The name of modern-day Australia comes from Greek words that mean "Land of the Fierce". The Dutch gave the country New Zealand, which means "Land of Long White Cloud." Papua New Guinea's name is less attractive. While the names of each country are interesting, there is no evidence to support any of them. The best place to find out is the country's history.

The name of Hungary was given to them by the Byzantines, assuming that they were Turkic. The Hungarians actually originated from seven separate tribes, but the Byzantines used this assumption for their names. The spelling of Ugry, for example, is influenced by Hunni, while the pronunciation of Uhorshchina is derived from Hunni. The same applies to the names of Lithuania, Ukraine, and Vengrija in Lithuania.
