Akan Name Quiz

Welcome to the akan name quiz. The Akan people are a meta-ethnic group primarily found in Ghana and the Ivory Coast. While their names may be similar, there are also several subgroups, with varying names. Each subgroup has its own unique language and culture, but the general name pattern is the same. The Akan naming tradition dates back hundreds of years. As a result, there are many Akan influences in names, from the Fante to the Ewe.

There are several Akan names. An Akan name is pronounced like the English Joe, and it means "God's completeness." Akan names can mean different things. For example, dwo means "three-quarters of God" and "a third child is born on Wednesday". Akan dwo means "god's hand" and "adwo" means "the god's peace."

Akan names are often very common, with many popular Ghanaian celebrities bearing these names. You may even be a "Thursday baby" - after all, Ghana has numerous stars! You've probably heard of Asante Queen Yaa Asantewaa, or one of the Edjuso warriors. You might be surprised to learn that your first name is Awoada.

Akan people are known for their naming system. They give their children a name based on the day of the week they were born. For example, a Monday-born male is called Kwasi, a female is named Akosua, and a Wednesday-born person is called Kwaku. Awaka is associated with the spider and means "Friday." And, of course, you're probably a Wednesday-born and your first name is Afua.
