It is designed for use on your website or application and returns JSON results by default. Users can make as many requests as they need in a single day, and can use their own API keys. No-key IP addresses are limited to 40 requests per minute or 1K per day. Due to the wide variation in the naming and labeling of drugs, many healthcare systems have developed standards that are used in the industry. The Structured Product Labeling standard (SPL) is the most common international data standard for drug labeling. It is an XML file that contains the human-readable text of a drug's label, as well as structured elements regarding a drug's properties.

The API provides a comprehensive collection of drug names. This database is provided by the National Library of Medicine (NLM), a federal agency of the United States. NDCs contain information about the pharmacological composition, toxicity, and dosage form of all approved medications in the United States. They can also be used to search for over-the-counter and prescription medications.

The API includes information about the NDC, an 11-digit number assigned to every drug in the US. This 10-digit number identifies the company that manufactured, repackaged, and distributed a particular drug. The NDC is organized by three sets of codes: the manufacturer's code, the product code, and the RxCUI. The NDC Directory provides associations between a drug's strength and the drug's standardized name.. The Drug Name API is provided as a single row in JSON format.
